Welcome to our LSR page.  We are members of the East Coast
Timing Association (ECTA)  and race at Maxton, NC.  The track
is a 1.9 mile Army Airbase runway, know as the "Monster Mile"
This is a standing mile race.  You start at a dead stop and your
speed is taken at the one mile mark.  Click on the ECTA logo in
the top right corner to go to their web site.
We are also Members of Bonneville Nationals, Inc (BNI) and will
be racing several times this year at the Bonneville salt flats.

Spring '07
During the off season we were able to make a few changes to
our bike:
We changed the chromeoly swingarm to a 7020 aluminum arm
which is 7 pounds lighter!.  The new arm is braced and
beautiful.  It makes the Vmax chain drive arms made here in the
States look like a 1980's dirt bike arm.

We replaced the PC680 battery with a tiny moped battery,
saving 11 pounds!!!  That made up a lot of the weight that I
seemed to put on my gut :-) I need to loose about 8-10 pounds
off my gut.  Hopping to loose 5 for the 2nd race and the rest for
the 3rd.

But the biggest change was replacing the 41mm flatslides carbs
with the
Fuel Injection Full Motor Management System (EFI -
FMM) We gained a huge 10hp with this system.  I say huge
because when you are at the top of the Hp gaining curve
looking for things to give you maybe 1 or 2 Hp, a 10 hp gain is
HUGE

First race of the season.  March 31st - April 1st:
Jerry and I headed up to Maxton on Friday the 30th.  It was a 9
hour ride of talking about what we thought the weekend would
bring.  I felt very good about the bike.  She was all prepped and
ready to go.  We were headed up to race against speed and
the speed was 187.8mph  Even thou it was my own record I
was going after, there was the fact that I did not back the 187
up last year.  I only ran it once and it was a 5mph jump from the
consistent 182/183 I ran that weekend.
We decided our goal for the race would be 190mph, and that
would give us the rest of the season to get to the 195mph we
wanted, plus back up the 187mph I did last year.
Saturday Morning was a little cool, about 50 degrees. After
getting our certified event gas and passing tech, we headed
down to the staging lanes.  That's when we realized how many
racers were there for the Hot Rod Magazine shoot-out
weekend.  The staging lanes were full and they had us lined up
in the access road for almost a half mile!  We sat in line for 3
hours before our first run.  I had every intention of doing a nice
easy run to get use to the track and the bike again, but with the
amount of racers there, we were only going to get 2 runs in for
the whole day and had to make each one count.
The first run felt smooth, bike pulled good.  I did not think I went
any faster then the 187, but I did.... 195.9mph  WOW, I not only
backed up the 187 but crushed it and reach the goal speed for
the year. I really love my Fuel Injection!
After sitting in line for another 3 hours, we did our 2nd run. I
thought, If I just tucked a little harder and shifted just right,
maybe I could get a 196.x    The second run produced an even
more amazing speed of 198.6mph.  Wait a minute... that's only
1.4mph from the unobtainable 200mph.
I was told "the Vmax is a barn door". "As aerodynamic as a
school bus".  My favorite.... "YOU COULD NEVER GO 200MPH
ON A VMAX"  Ok, I did the math, going 200mph is harder then
everyone thinks and going 200 on a naked Vmax is just about
impossible, let alone going that fast on all motor (no power
adder and pumped gas).  But, I just went 198.6??? so close,
but close does not get you a green hat at Maxton.
Sunday April 1st:
Great....April fools day.  We went to the track to get an early
start.  Hoping to get another 2 runs in.  Wondering if this fools
(me) day was going to be made.  So close to the 200 on
Saturday, yet so far.  I was asked repeatedly... "you going to go
200 today?"  I always answered with, "we'll see what happens".
The line at the staging lanes was much smaller today, most
people could not race both days and had to go home.  The first
run of the day produce another impressive 195.8mph.  Damn
this bike is fast.  It seemed we were going to be able to get 3
runs in today, but we had to make them all count.  The second
run produced a April Fooling 105mph, yes, 105mph.  It seems,
with the amount of power the Vmax is producing at wide open
throttle, she is using more gas than I guessed and I ran out at
around the 1/2 mile point, coasting across the line at a gentle
105mph.
And it was Jerry to the rescue.  Jerry was a great pit crew! He
did it all.  Made sure we had everything when we needed it,
took great care of the bike and me. Plus gave his circus bear
impression on the pit bike :-) He even had a late night Wild Bros
pit crew party on Saturday night. Thank you very much Jerry for
coming with me and making sure all went well.
We also had moral support from local NC VMOA members that
came to the race.  I would like to thank Eric for organizing the
VMOA get-together and cook-out and say thanks to all the great
people that wished us luck.
Oh Ya... We did a third run on Sunday.  The run felt smooth
damn smooth.  I tuck hard, squeezing the bike the faster I went.
It seemed like a good run.  Felt no faster nor slower then the
other good ones (definitely better then the 105 run).  As I was
coming back down the return road I see a Vmax coming my
way.  It was Hoke on his sweet red Vmax.  He was holding up
two fingers and yelling at me.  ????  I was thinking "no, I
couldn't have, he's just busting my balls"  it is April fools day
after all.  When I reached the impound area people were
running up with there arms in the air.  Maybe they're not joking,
maybe I did do it.  I walk over to the time slip table and gave the
girl my number.  #5111 please.  She says, here you go, you
went 200MPH!
YES!! We did it. 200.06mph on a Naturally Aspirated, Naked
Vmax.
To me it was a big deal, and it made me feel great to see it was
special to other people also.  At Maxton reaching 200mph
seems just not to be a personal thing, everyone enjoys and
joins in on your accomplishment.  During the ceremony
inducting me into the East Cost 200 club as a life member I
realized this.  I think it hit me when Scott was handing me the
green hat and saying some words that made me realize what I
had really accomplished.  As I shook the other 200mph
members hands and listened to their speeds I felt close to each
and everyone of them (even thou they all were faster then me:-)

By reaching 200mph naked, we became the first naturally
aspirated bike to do this at Maxton and also became 1 of only 6
people to ever reach 200mph on a naked bike at Maxton (the
other 5 were on Turbo Hayabusas).  Scott also told me there is
less then 2 dozen people in the world to have ever reach
200mph on a naked bike, and research has found ONLY 4
people in the world that have gone over 200mph on a naked
motorcycle, with just "all motor" (naturally aspirated) They are:

Tom Elrod, 1979, Kawasaki, Bonneville 200.022 MPH
Rich Yacoucci, 2001, Suzuki, El Mirage, 203.799 MPH
Mark Deluca, 2003, Forstall Suzuki, Bonneville, 203.401 MPH
Bill Warner, 2007, Yamaha V-Max, Maxton 200.06 MPH

Well, what can I say now.... we are going to try to go faster.
We are going to develop a ram air system for the EFI to run in
May.  The ram air will also be available to the public in a few
months.  There should be a 5hp gain on the big end with the
ram.
Our new speed goal is 203.8mph   Can you guess why?

If you are at all able to come to Maxton to watch the races,
please do or if you have the itch, sign-up and race with us
